4.  Climate, Land & Agriculture:

a.       Climate: tropical; rainy, monsoon season (May to November); dry season (December to April); little seasonal temperature variation

b.      Total Agricultural Land Area: 54550 sq. km.

                                                               i.      Arable land: 20.44%

                                                             ii.      Permanent crops: 0.59%

                                                            iii.      Irrigated land: 2,850 sq km

                                                           iv.      Other: 78.97%

5.  Major Agricultural commodities: rice, rubber, corn, vegetables, cashews, cassava (manioc), silk

6.  Major agricultural/industrial activity where jute can be used:  wood and wood products, textiles, paper industry, cigarettes, handicrafts etc.

Batdambang Province in Cambodia had shops for repairing farm implements, a cotton gin and textile mill, a jute-bag factory, an automobile and tractor repair plant, and a phosphate-fertilizer plant.

7. Environmental information & data:

Environment - current issues: illegal logging activities throughout the country and strip mining for gems in the western region along the border with Thailand have resulted in habitat loss and declining biodiversity (in particular, destruction of mangrove swamps threatens natural fisheries); soil erosion; in rural areas, most of the population does not have access to potable water; declining fish stocks because of illegal fishing and overfishing
