Plastic Facts:

Bangkok

  More than 600,000 plastic bags are used in Bangkok city of nine million people. Their annual disposal cost reaches more than 18.4 million dollars.

  For the second year in a row, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is holding its 'No Bag, No Baht' campaign to reduce plastic bags.

  The city's daily 10,000 tonnes of trash, about 1,800 tonnes are plastic bags, a number projected to increase by about 20 percent each year.

 

Phuket

  Phuket provincial government begins Plastic Bag Free Campaign from February 27, 2012.

  A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has signed between Phuket Province and retail stores

The MoU simply states that stores will not give out free plastic shopping bags – instead they will charge the customer a fee for the plastic bag

  This year, Thailand  imports around 4.0 million pieces of jute bags from Bangladesh for the purpose of packaging rice

  Thailand is one of the leading global rice exporting countries

  Recently Thailand announced steps to remove poly or plastic materials considering their negative impact on the environment

  IJO and IJSG Collaboration:  
     
 

    Kingdom of Thailand was a member of the erstwhile IJO since its inception. Thailand participated in the implementation of a number of Agricultural and Industrial projects sponsored by IJO

 

    The former Secretary General, Mr. Sudripta Roy, IJSG visited Bangkok, Thailand on Membership drive of the IJG in March 2009.
