Climate, Land & Agriculture:

 

a.      Climate: temperate in north with mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers; desert in south

                                                          ii.      Permanent crops: 13.08%

                                                          iii.      Irrigated land: 4,450 sq km

d.      Major Agricultural commodities: olives, olive oil, grain, tomatoes, citrus fruit, sugar beets, dates, almonds; beef, dairy products

 

Major Industrial Activities  where jute can be used:

textiles & clothing, footwear, agribusiness, automotive, packing, pulp & paper etc.

 

 Environmental information & data:

 

Environment Current Issues: toxic and hazardous waste disposal is ineffective and poses health risks; water pollution from raw sewage; limited natural freshwater resources; deforestation; overgrazing; soil erosion; desertification
